WALLACE
BROECKER (1985)
Dr.
W.S. Broecker has been chosen as the eighth recipient of the A.G. Huntsman
Award for his outstanding geochemical studies that have had a profound
impact on our understanding of the past, present, and predicted future
oceans. As a result of his deep insight and guided by the desire to obtain
a description of how the ocean "works", Dr. Broecker has
developed revolutionary new ideas on geochemical processes, both within
the ocean and between the ocean and atmosphere, that span the disciplines
of chemistry, physics, and biology and occur over times ranging from
seconds to eons. In his voluminous scientific publications, Dr. Broecker
describes work that has led to a new generation of ocean models capable of
addressing profound and sometimes crucial geochemical questions such as
the role of the oceans in determining the amount of carbon dioxide in the
atmosphere. |
